SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY - Our senior adult ministry is quickly emerging into a vibrant form of fellowship and outreach for retired men and women. In addition to enjoyable outings such as day trips around the state of Oklahoma, this ministry also provides needs-based resources for aging individuals.
Mission
Description
Mission
Provide a community of Christian seniors making a difference together in the Edmond Oklahoma community. Our "stated mission" is to carry out our congregation's mission statement among those 60 and better. (Certainly our mission is the same as Christ has called us to be.)
Description
Life doesn't end at retirement...and neither do opportunities to learn, grow, fellowship, and serve. An expanding senior adults ministry provides resources and opportunities for aging men and women to express their faith.
Events such as day-trips to various points of interest across the state and seminars like the "Living Happy, Living Healthy" event in Arlington, TX, provide opportunities for senior adults to enjoy fellowship while learning to deal with the unique challenges of aging.

Inheritance: The 'right' amount?
Key points by TED HACKNEY, director of the Center for Charitable Estate Planning
You want to do what is best for your family even after you are gone. You may be wondering what is the "right" amount to leave children, grandchildren, nephews or nieces? Here are three guiding principles for deciding an appropriate amount to give each person:
1. Everyone should provide for the needs of his or her family. 1 Timothy 5:8.
2. An inheritance should provide a reasonable standard of living for the child, nephew or niece.
3. An inheritance that covers too many "wants and desires" may lead to unhappiness, greed and a failure to trust in the Lord for provision.
Are there guidelines for leaving children a substantial inheritance? Some Christian parents have been careful with their resources and have accumulated a significant estate. How can a larger estate be transferred with a good result for children?
1. Typically, a larger inheritance will be used more wisely if it is distributed over a longer time and at a later age. A lump sum at one time is usually unwise. Many younger children who receive a large inheritance at an early age spend it within 18 months.

2. A good plan usually includes a partial distribution of principal when the parents pass away, income for a period of years, and a second payout of deferred principal. You may even want to distribute principal over a substantial number of years to prevent the wasting of assets.
3. Set up a target number for the inheritance. The target inheritance can then be designed to pass to a child, nephew or niece. A target number is the sum of the principal and income given through the inheritance plan. With prayer and careful thought, the plan can move a substantial amount, while still permitting your child to learn to love the Lord, trust him for provision, and to learn the joy and rewards of work.

Changing of our Population
The SAM's of this congregations are very important. Statistics help put this in perspective. According to recent statistical studies, 34% of all Americans are 50 years of age or older. Every 7 seconds another person turns 50! People aged 65 plus number over 35 million, representing one out of every 8 Americans. The number of older Americans (65+) has increased to 12.4% since 1990 (3.3 million). This number is expected to grow to 20% by 2030. In the U.S., 2 million people celebrated their 65th birthday last year … almost 5,500 per day. As of July 1983, there are more adults age 65 or older than teenagers in the United States. This growing number of senior adults is living longer than ever before. More than two hundred Americans reach age 100 each week.
May our God bless our efforts and may we bring glory to God through this work until Christ comes again.

Being Light in a Dark World
There are many things I don't know yet. I enjoy learning
about or sometimes experiencing new things in life. Do you know what a light boat is? For some a
light boat is designed to carry light
weights. For others it’s a boat with many lights for decoration, but I’m talking about one that gives direction.
Everyone has heard of a “light house,” but in my early years
I had never heard of a "Light Boat." A "Light House" is a
tall house on shore with a huge bright light at the top to guide ships away
from danger and to the harbor. Well, a
"Light Boat" takes that concept a step further by actually taking the light off shore into the
ocean or bay. The mission is to place itself out in the deep, far enough from
shore to extend its effectiveness significantly.
So, we talk about the church being a light house. Think about being a light boat, getting off
of the safe shore and going out that extra mile to take the light of the gospel
to where the lost ships are, to safely guide them home. Keep thinking and
praying about where God would be blessed by us personally stepping out into “deeper
waters” in 2013.
